Tragedy struck the university today when a beloved education professor died after working at the university for 36 years// Elizabeth Billson had been fighting cancer for 10 years and dies at 58- years-old //  She was been estimated to have taught 10- thousand future teachers during her 36 years of commitment// Billson was awarded university's Outstanding Professor last year///

Wreck

A truck accident occurred on I- 59 last night causing a major traffic jam// The road was blocked for 45 minutes when two trucks collided on part of the road that was undergoing repairs// Fuel form both of the trucks spilled onto the highway causing an oil slick on the two narrow lanes// About 10- thousand dollars of goods were lost from one of the two trucks that were refrigerated // Both drivers are unhurt but were cited for speeding and reckless driving///

Bridge Completed

Commuters in the Oak Grove area can again, cut back on their commuting time// The 75- year- old bridge that was washed out by a flood last year has finally been fixed over Roaring creek // The 20 minute drive can go back to the one mile trip it was earlier now that the bridge has finally been fixed// The head of the County Department of Transportation/ Roland Lively mentioned the following comment/

"We already had some money in the county budget for repairs// Problem was/ we didn't have enough to replace the bridge/.... we were able to do it a lot quicker than we had expected//"

The 33- foot long bridge cost 7 hundred thousand dollars to replace// one seventh was paid by the county/ 2 thousand dollars from the state and the remaining was paid by the United States Department of Transportation///

Basketball Death


A 15- year-old basketball player for Central High School was pronounced dead this morning//The freshman/ Todd White was brought to Central Memorial Hospital after collapsing while running during basketball practice// He was officially pronounced dead after all efforts of reviving him failed at the hospital// According to the basketball trainer Mike Way/ Todd did not have any known illnesses// The cause of his death will be determined by the county corner autopsy today///

Energy Plan 

The Secretary of the Interior announced a 8- hundred million dollar  plan to save energy by reducing strip mining through the span of five years// The plan was created and praised by Secretary/ Grace Green as a way of reducing dependence of foreign oil and bringing America to a new level of environmentally friendly// The energy plan also plans on easing the licensing of new nuclear power plants// Green announced the achievement at Western Governor's Conference in Salt Lake City while traveling trough western United States for a 3- day tour///

On The Verge of Success.

The Verge is a highly acclaimed technology blog that converges opinionated technology articles with daily news that makes it fun and easy for every reader to explore. Formed from the creators of AOL, this blog is nothing short of opinionated geek.
 This Blog really takes into play the audience who is most likely on the page for their daily dose of geek and nerd. At first glance, the audience is a little overwhelmed with the amount of information presented on the home page but is also instantly drawn in. The amount of colors excites the mind and makes the eyes wonder all around the page until an interesting article is found.
It surely does not take much time to find such an article with the  creative and up to date articles that present themselves all around the page. The Verge does not merely stop at presenting techno info, they also push further to relate and involve the information with politics and daily news creating this new sort of perspective on relative news.
Although The Verge is a great sight for those who know what they are looking for, it does not present its information in a simple and organized fashion. Those audience members that have just stumbled upon the website from a simple Google search, will not know what to think of it at first glance because of the overwhelming amount of cluster. For someone who wants to find a quick opinion on an area of their interest, The Verge is perfect. But for those who are looking for something specific, this blog may not be the place to go.
The reader also had to keep in mind that the articles written on The Verge are mostly opinionated; which isn't very hard to see by their layout. The bright, vibrant colors make the site look very unprofessional and immature for the professional mind but for those with a creative mind it makes their senses tingle. Although the sight does have a few advertisements, they are laid on the side just for viewers to glance at which is very nice for presentation and design. As for overall appearance and ratings of demands from the audience, The Verge gets a solid three on Technotati's Top 100 blogs list. So go ahead, explore; nerds and geeks, you've found your paradise.

Lynchburg Resident Arrested for Parent's Murder

  Ben Wagner, 20, arrested with charges of murder,
  attempted murder and malicious wounding Oct. 2. 

  Ben Wagner, 20, arrested for the murder of his mother Dianna Wagner and attempted murder of his father, Bert Wagner.
• A 911 call led the Lynchburg Police Department to Ben's white Camero where a 9mm handgun was found in the back seat.
• Official court date will be determined Oct 7 in Lynchburg General District Court.

Lynchburg Police Department announced the arrest of a 20-year-old Burger King employee after being accused of the murder and attempted murder of his parents Wednesday, Oct.2.

Police say they found the body of Dianna Wagner, 50, with two gunshot wounds to the chest in the kitchen of 134 Donald Street, Wednesday evening. Bert Wagner, 48, was discovered unconscious in the garage with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Dianna was pronounced dead on arrival and Bert was rushed into surgery at Lynchburg General Hospital where he told police that his son had shot him after he returned home from work.

A 911 call came in at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 2 from an anonymous male caller who claimed to have heard gun shots from the Donald Street residence. Immediately, officers Shane Barrow and Mindy Johnson and detective Randi Bennett were dispatched to the house were the two victims were found.

The two bodies were found at the Wagner's
 house on Donald Street, showed above. 

The 911 caller reported seeing Dianna and Bert's son, Ben Wagner, carrying a gun and driving away in a white Camaro. Police put out an all-points bulletin for his car at 6:15 p.m. and saw the car at a Shell gas station on Lee Highway later that evening.

Police say, Ben was peacefully taken into custody while buying a snack in the store. In the backseat of his car, police found a 9mm handgun. Tests are being preformed to see if this was the gun that was used in the murder.

“This crime has shaken the city to its core. We have made this case a priority and are working to restore peace to the Wagner's neighborhood,” police detective, Randy Bennett said.

Bert Wagner should be returning to his job at Lynchburg Construction Company after fully recovering from his surgery. Dianna Wagner was a care giver at a local daycare center.

"The Wagners seemed like good people. They kept to themselves mostly. Ben was a nice boy who used to cut my lawn,"neighbor, Jane Smith, said. 

This was not the first time that Ben Wagner was arrested. Police admitted Ben had been arrested three times previously:

1. He was arrested after an altercation at Burger King and no charges were filed.

2. In April when cocaine was found in the car he was riding in; no charges were filed in this case.

3. He was also arrested last month for speeding with a blood alcohol level of .15 and pleaded guilty to first offense DUI and paid a $1,200 fine.

“I lost my wife and my son. Ben may still be alive but things will never be the same. I will stand by my son's side and continue to give him the love he had always had,” Bert Wagner said.

Ben will face charges Oct. 7, of one count first- degree murder, attempted murder and malicious wounding in Lynchburg General District Court.

His official trial date will be discussed at this time.

Suspect Arrested for Parent's Murder

Resident of Lynchburg is being tried for the murder and attempted murder of his mother and father. Police say there can be no other suspect.
