NEW YORK- November 20, 2013 Head of the purchasing department at Mountain East Medical Center, Bob Wilkinson, resigned this morning.
Bob Wilkinson came to Mountain East Medical Center in 1975. Previously he worked for a small rural community hospital as their purchasing chief. He was a 1972 graduate from the state university's School of Hospital Admin. Wilkinson plans to take a job with City Memorial Hospital.
Despite the financial friction within the past two months, Wilkinson will be missed among the staff at the hospital.
Wilkinson is due to be replaced by assistant head of the department, Johnny Toler. According to Harry Illscott, the hospital administrator, the hospital chose Toler as a replacement because of his reliability within the past 13 years of service at the hospital.
"Bob's abilities will be greatly missed at this hospital, but I know that Johnny Toler is a person we can all depend on to do whatever is necessary to keep his department going. I have great faith in him and in this hospital," Illscott said.
Along with his background in pharmacy, Toler has two children with his wife Carolyn, the head of the gynecology department at Mountain East Medical Center. He was brought into the purchasing department 13 years ago in 1978 as an assistant after the hospital pharmacy closed.
Toler had this to say about his new position: "This hospital means a great deal to me and my family, and I will give my best efforts to making our purchasing department the best. I learned from a fine man- Bob Wilkinson- and I hopeI can continue to build on the foundation he established."
Mountain East Medical Center is a local hospital serving the community for the past century. We put the needs and the struggles of our patients first while proactively searching for the next best thing in the medical industry. We are committed to our patients and creating the best social and medical environment to reach far beyond the community.

Ship my pants- Kmart Commercial
What visual effects are used to define location?
In the Kmart "Ship my Pants" Commercial the location is clearly defined as a shopping center. By showing the aisles of products, Kmart clearly displayed the store and convenience itself. Using visual effects such as the average person shows that the shopping center is for the average Joe and for the majority of all watching the commercial.
What sound effects are used to define action?
There really aren't many sound effects besides the speech in this commercial but that is what makes it brilliant. By refraining from the distracting noise of action, the lack of sound effect shows that there is no actin to be taken because Kmart now ships to your house. There is no reason to get into a car anymore and ride to the store but instead to just open up a computer and hit send.
What type of format is being used?
It looks to me as if the format os a combination of a Testimonial and Problem solving. It shows that there is a problem while also saying that it is a specific person who was being affected by the epidemic of shipping pants.
Brief Synopsis of Advertisement
Kmart is announcing a new innovation to their business by offering free shipment of any product that is offered currently in stores. The Advertisers in this case took the creative route and made it funny and memorable to the audience by saying "Ship my Pants" in almost every sentence which obviously sounds like a different word.
What is the target market of the ad?
The target market of the ad is the average adult looking for convenience. Many adults dont have the time to go to the store but instead have to go home and take care of the family. The advertisers play on the humor bone of the audience which displays how relaxed of an environment they are offering when one wants to do business at Kmart.
What benefits are offered by the ad?
Convenience is the major benefit offered by the ad. Like mentioned in the last answer many adults don't have the time to stop and shop around for something they need. What they really need is the convenience of knowing that Kmart is always there if you need something and its as simple as a click of a button.
Is there a call to action in the ad?
What is really interesting about this ad is that there is no call to action in this sense, instead it is a call to convenience. By making something more simple it shows that Kmart is the only place that is looking out for the customer and they want to make sure that the little things in your life are being taken care of.

Polident Advertisement
What is the promise of benefit offered by this headline?
"Now she's not ashamed of her false teeth smile." Polident has been known for decades as being the denture glue of the future. Even throughout the 40's in advertising, Polident was at the top of its game with this advertisement. The headline in this case is promising a better looking smile for all its users. It is essentially using comparisons to other cleaning agents saying that the other cleaning products will make the consumer feel trashy and dirty.
How does the illustration demonstrate the product? How does this illustration attract attention?
As you can see from the advertisement, consumers are immediately attracted to the lovely girl on the cover with an even lovelier smile. The image shows the audience, being elderly, that they could be just as beautiful (if not more beautiful) than the "youngster" on the advertisement. The illustration shows that the beauty of a woman is all in the smile and how it leads to their inner beauty.
What proofs of the promise of benefit in the headline are offered by the body copy?
The promise of benefit in this advertisement, being confident in your smile, is proved in many cases in the body copy of this article. They start by asking the customer is their smile is causing them to look trash and loosing their charm because of the lack of confidence. The promise is then proven by telling the audience exactly what they want to hear. Making it easy, "with not brushing required"and using words that appeal to the user such as purifies after making the customer feel like they have been making the wrong decision for years not only for the healthiness of the dentures but also the confidence in every smile.
What action does this ad tell readers to take?
The Polident advertisement tells the buyer to go out and buy the product so they may feel young and beautiful again and never again be afraid to smile. By making sure to put in customer reviews into the mix, they show that this is not a new product but instead is a widely acclaimed product that is bought by the common person. They also threw in the cost of the item that is being sold and made sure to say that it is more than just affordable but is a necessity for anyone who wants to look fabulous!

The Persuaders
I watched the Persuaders in its entirety.
On first glance at the program called the Persuaders I wasn't quite sure what I was getting myself into because well, what is there to know about persuading people into buying a product? All you do is make it sound good for the consumer to buy your product and crush the other competition with your fluent usage of awesome terms that swoon each into their own world of consumerism. As it turns out there is much more to the major I have chosen than I originally thought. When I first declared my major I thought it would be a good idea to chose Advertising and Public Relations because I loved to write and to make people laugh and seeing the utter joy that rolled off of my viewers faces was to me icing on the cake of my success. After watching the Persuaders I realized that Advertising is much more than meets the eye. No one thinks of all the research that goes into making a McDonalds advertisement or how much thought goes into the marketing aspects of each and every Gieco commercial.
The Persuaders begins with just a few simple concepts to "breaking through the clutter". This concept is so true on so many levels. Just look at Times Square. Many don't like to go into Times Square because of the insane amount of advertisements that invade your space from each angle. It is the advertisers job to break through that clutter and know their audience. What is the first thing that comes into your mind when your favorite television sitcom breaks into the commercial for a wholesale item? Of course you think its rigged that all advertisers want is to break into your sub-concious and make all you ever think of be the lovely texture that Wheaties has. Oh but it is so much more than that. The geniuses behind every commercial aren't expecting you to switch over to their insurance company at that moment, they are making it hard to not think of their company 24/7. Take the "Hump Day" commercial for example. They take something that people love right now, maybe it would be youtube videos or vines or social media all in general, and they make a simple funny concept go viral.
That is exactly the concept that the Persuaders put to the test. Every advertiser needs to take the difficult task of breaking through the clutter knowing what their audience likes. Only during SuperBowl do people like commercials. Every other time of the year it is up to the advertiser to know what people like. They hate commercials; it interrupts their favorite shows. And here comes the creative mind of the advertisers. RESEARCH! of each and every one of their customers! How they think, what words to use to make it sound appealing, and form each and every advertisement to each person and their demographics. It is quite interesting how much work goes into customizing each advertisement to each person and the vast majority at the same time. It tells each person that they are first in the world.
But wait, form a Christian perspective, thats totally wrong. We need to have a humble mindset and put others before ourselves at all times. Well isn't that interesting that the simplest of things can convert our minds and ergo our culture and future into thinking everything is for the good of well, me?
We see through the Persuaders how much effort goes into making one 30-second advertisement just to engrave the name of a product or company into maybe even one mind. How much information they have to collect and especially how much information is at hand at any moment in the process is very concerning to me. In the long run this was something that was completely eye- opening for me but something keeps everyone on their toes because the root of all evil is greed isn't it?

Fox Local News 21/27
Red Ribbon Week broadcast
Audio and Visual impact.
The local fox news reported on Red
Ribbon Week in local schools yesterday evening. The Audio and Visual
really brings in the audience. The viewer is immediately brought into
the event with the reporters as they use words like “our”, “we”
and “their”. These words draw in the viewer to show that the
audience is not only the subject but is also encouraged to be
involved with the news report. The wording of each phrase is specific
right to the point to make an image of immediacy and interest.
Personally watching and listening to the broadcast, I felt interested
even if the story did not affect me particularly. Each sentence
describes perfectly the full circle structure and making the listener
want ot keep watching and get more involved because the broadcast is
much more personal to them and the community. As for visual impact,
the different angles the lens took could have been more informative
at points but it certainly portrayed the story at hand. If one were
to watch the broadcast with out sound, the visual and subtitles
itself would suffice to tell the story; it may not be from a personal
level that flows like a transitional conversation but still would
suffice.
Timeliness.
Not many people watch the local news
anymore because of the more significant crisis and propaganda that
goes on within and outside the country so making sure the broadcast
tends to the audience's needs is a must. A good broadcast needs to
put out the specific points of information without being opinionated
or explanatory. How the reporter needs to do this is through the
strategic placement of their information and the timeliness. The Fox
local news did a fairly good job with presenting the information in a
timely manner as to tend to the audiences needs. Each sentence in the
Red Ribbon Week story was short and concise. They made it specific
and made sure that each piece of information was presented in its own
sentence. This method of broadcasting makes the reader sure that each
story will only take a few minutes of their time while also providing
the most precise information to get the most out of the littlest of
time. Certain phrases in this particular video not only makes the
viewer feel in conversation with the broadcaster but also feels as if
it is a short conversation that will not take up the rest of their
day. And that is exactly what the Fox news presents to its viewers,
in a timely and conversational manner. The only thing that I would
critique in this department would have to be the friendliness of the
conversation because there was very many serious notes to a fun
potentially fun subject.
Information.
Above all else in a Broadcast is the
actually information presented. No one tunes into the news to simply
be entertained by something that is going to completely waste the
little amount of time that they have. That being said, accuracy and
currency is always the top priority to every news reporter. The
information in a news story is the foundation of every word that is
then spiced up with personalization and clarity. What the story that
was watched today presented could have been more informative instead
of being so explanatory on each detail but at the same time the
information was equally important. The Audience does not want some
fluffed up version of a story that throws in opinions, they want the
information presented so they can use their own intellect to
determine their own perspective on the subject. The Red Ribbon week
presentation was well thought out and presented in a way that
presented the information in a full circle to keep the reader
entertained and involved in the story without thinking too far into
the subject. The information in the story was just enough to give
the audience the information they should know and the explanation of
the information to give the audience further into detail what needed
to be said.

On The Verge of Success.
The Verge is a highly acclaimed technology blog that converges opinionated technology articles with daily news that makes it fun and easy for every reader to explore. Formed from the creators of AOL, this blog is nothing short of opinionated geek.
This Blog really takes into play the audience who is most likely on the page for their daily dose of geek and nerd. At first glance, the audience is a little overwhelmed with the amount of information presented on the home page but is also instantly drawn in. The amount of colors excites the mind and makes the eyes wonder all around the page until an interesting article is found.
It surely does not take much time to find such an article with the creative and up to date articles that present themselves all around the page. The Verge does not merely stop at presenting techno info, they also push further to relate and involve the information with politics and daily news creating this new sort of perspective on relative news.
Although The Verge is a great sight for those who know what they are looking for, it does not present its information in a simple and organized fashion. Those audience members that have just stumbled upon the website from a simple Google search, will not know what to think of it at first glance because of the overwhelming amount of cluster. For someone who wants to find a quick opinion on an area of their interest, The Verge is perfect. But for those who are looking for something specific, this blog may not be the place to go.
The reader also had to keep in mind that the articles written on The Verge are mostly opinionated; which isn't very hard to see by their layout. The bright, vibrant colors make the site look very unprofessional and immature for the professional mind but for those with a creative mind it makes their senses tingle. Although the sight does have a few advertisements, they are laid on the side just for viewers to glance at which is very nice for presentation and design. As for overall appearance and ratings of demands from the audience, The Verge gets a solid three on Technotati's Top 100 blogs list. So go ahead, explore; nerds and geeks, you've found your paradise.

To Publish or not to Publish
When it comes to photojournalism, morals and ethics need to be greatly presented in order not to offend the reader or the person within the photo. The article concerning the revealing of graphic army pictures is one of these stories. I would understand why they would want to show it to the world. The whole point of adding pictures in a story is to make it more personable and make it hit closer to home. What are the pictures that capture your attention the most? I bet you would say, the unusual ones. While we are in our comfy homes there is a real crisis going on over seas and people are dying. A true photojournalist would want their reader to feel like they are there within the story. It is a true reality that needs to be known. On the other hand, although, this person is a loved one who died in a horrible way. posting a picture to make money off of or to show for entertainment and news only hurts the family even more than they have already been. Ethics within journalism should always come before the story presented. It is here that you gain a reputation for being a real human being instead of an entertainment hog.

Photojournalism and Reporting with Graphics
With the innovation of the 21st century beyond what anyone could predict, the styles and needs for writing have increased in popularity and creativity. Before the invention of the camera, reporters had to be creative with wording and fonts to capture the attention of the readers through other forms of visual communication. Today, reporters are pressured to provide information quick and easily for the busy readers who may only have a few seconds to spare and only one article to read. The use of photographs since the early 1930's has completely revolutionized the way reporters and journalist present content.
Photojournalists have to one of the most creative groups of people on this planet. Not only do they need to know how to present their story in a manner worthy of reading, but also provide a creative and informative way to present visual information. This visual information can come from a simple list, a skewed photograph or graph.
The use of photography within journalism has grown extensively with the rise in technology such as DSLR cameras and high resolution cellphone cameras. Photographs not only need to bring the reader in by connection of sight with words, but also must show a well taken photograph. The photographer must know the basics of using their camera, of taking a picture with good lighting and perspective and know what sort of picture would be appropriate for the story and for the sensitivity of the situation, ethics. Cutlines or captions must also be presented underneath the presented photograph to describe not only what is happening but also describe the scenery of what the lens could not capture.
One more aspect opt photojournalism could be presented through the use of charts within a story to present statistics and to clarify information. The audience wants to know as much information they can get within a short timeframe; a chart can be a perfect solution. The reporter, in this situation, must know the basics of the information and be able to validate the information to clarify accuracy.

The Aftermath of Tragedy
An interview took place with Andrew Dinges and his recollection of the events of Sept. 11. 1. Where were you when you heard the news of the terrorists attack?
Andrew was a freshman in high school. At the time of the attacks, he was in his history class when teacher, Mr.Ryan, ran in to turn on the television to show the class. "I just remember watching and not really understanding at first and some girl in the back of the classroom started to cry and ran out..."
2. What went through your head at that time?
"oh, snap!," Andrew commented. No one really knew what was happening at that time. No one knew if it was a terrorist attack or an accident; it wasn't until we saw the second plane come in on T.V. that we realized that it was not a mistake.
3. What did the school do?
"We were in Jersey, (about an hour away from the city) so naturally everyone was scared." The school sent everyone home early.
4. Once you got home, how was your family reacting?
No one really knew what was going on still so they couldnt have a complete reaction. For the next few days they worried about Jonathan Dinges (Father) who worked at the closest army base to the city. Jonathan had to go into work the next day.
5. Do you know anyone who was affected by the attack?
"We were just really afraid for Dad because he had to go back to work the very next day and it is a government agency." Also family friend, Megan VanHine's father, lost his life when the building collapsed on the firefighter trying to save lives.
6. In one phrase, how would you say 9/11 affected Americans as a whole?
"We've lost our sense of safety." We can't go on a bus with backpack without someone questioning what is in it. We have all become too cautious and can't live our lives of freedom with this treat over our shoulder.
7.How did President Bush react?
He was doing a story reading for a Kindergarten class when one of the secret- service men whispered in his ear what had happened. Even with a blank face, Bush finished the reading and calmly walked out of the room to address a nation in chaos.
8. How do you feel our nation's leaders rose up during the event?
"President Bush really kept his cool." What had to be the hard part was knowing that these people who were flying, were actually citizens. That truly is the scariest part for every American because who knows who else is out there, and who is living next door.
9. What is your views on what the nation is doing right now to prevent something like this from happening again?
"Honestly, I believe this 'be ready for it' mentality is crazy." Its the same thing with the issue with Syria right now; they just gassed their people and we are prepared to "write a strong letter" to them for their use of chemical weapons. "interfere with what they're doing not for how they're doing it." Like the new law in New York, racial profiling, which states that a cop can't pull someone over if they look suspicious because it is racist.
10. What do you think we can do to prevent something like this happening in the future? Do we need to be more proactive or build up our defenses?
"I think with this question i have to take the middle ground." We cant do nothing because it is our nation, but we shouldn't invoke people with advertising on buses which say to watch out for suspicious baggage because it implants an idea into our minds that the terrorists wanted, fear. "If we are not proactive we are reactive."
